Charles Rim is the founding and General Partner at Access Ventures, and he specializes in the area of consumer and B2B software companies in Korea and Southeast Asia. Previously, Charles was the managing director of Korea and Southeast Asia at Tapjoy, a leading mobile advertising and monetization platform, and also venture partner for DFJ Athena, based in Seoul, Korea. Under his leadership, Tapjoy established itself as the leader in mobile incentivized ad platforms in Korea and the APAC region. Prior to Draper Athena and Tapjoy, Charles had been immersed in the expansion of the internet in the APAC region. He was the head of M&A APAC for Google, and led all deals by Google in the APAC region (ex-China) from 2006 to 2011. Previously, he was a director of strategy and corporate development at Yahoo Korea & SE Asia. He was also previously the CFO of Korea Thrunet(NASDAQ), Korea's first broadband network and enterprise solution provider. Prior to his corporate finance career, Charles was an investment banker (Credit Agricole Group, CISA) in the APAC region, mainly transacting in M&A, IPOs, and equity markets funding. He started his career as an international laywer. Charles graduated with a BA from the University of Pennsylvania, and received his JD from the Emory University School of Law. He enjoys the great outdoors and has a particular passion for angling in all waters.
John Chang is a General Partner and co-founder of Access Ventures LLC. Aside from managing the fund's day-to-day operations, he serves on the investment committee and also focuses on marketing the fund's activities. Prior to co-founding Access Ventures in 2017, John spent 25 years in international finance participating and overseeing the expansion of global investment banks in Asia Pacific region. John's most recent position was as APAC Co-Head of Equities and Head of Distribution for Barclays Capital Asia Limited. In this role, he was responsible for the management and strategic development of the firm’s sales and distribution divisions for the investment bank in the APAC region. He also served on the Global Equities Executive Committee and was the Chairman for Barclays Capital Taiwan Limited. Before his days at Barclays, John was the Country Head for Barclays Capital Korea Ltd and was also responsible for establishing the Korea operations. Prior to Barclays, John was the CEO of Deutsche Securities Korea and also the head of their Korean Equities business. John was born in Seoul, South Korea but was raised in the US and Canada since the age of four. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Duke University and currently resides in Hong Kong with his wife and two children.
